The Pineapple
The pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality since the 15th century, when it was first brought to Europe from the Caribbean.
As a guest, there was no greater honour than to be served pineapple because it meant the hosts had spared no expense.
Thus the symbol came to signify gracious gatherings.
